avec QR code : la mettre en place dans votre commerce loyalty card
The QR code has become second nature: restaurant menus, payments, tickets. It's also the simplest way to get your customers into a loyalty programme. You still need to know where to place it, how to validate visits and how to prevent abuse. Here's a proven method, adapted to local shops.
Two QR codes, two different roles
A modern loyalty programme usually involves two QR codes:
- The sign-up QR code, displayed in the shop: the customer scans it once to create their card.
- The card's QR code, displayed on the customer's phone: the merchant scans it at each visit to add a stamp or validate a reward.
Keeping the two clearly apart avoids confusion at the till. The first is for recruiting, the second for retaining.
Where to place the sign-up QR code
- Next to the payment terminal: that's where customers have their phone in hand and a few seconds to wait.
- On a counter stand, at eye level, with a clear message: “Your loyalty card in 10 seconds, no app needed”.
- In the window, for passers-by: a sticker is enough.
- On your tables if you're a restaurant or café, next to the menu.
Avoid QR codes that are too small (under 3 cm per side), placed too high or behind glass that reflects light.
Validate visits without cheating
The weak point of many programmes is validation. If customers can add a stamp themselves by scanning a fixed QR code, cheating becomes easy: one photo of the QR code and that's it.
Best practices:
- The merchant validates: by scanning the customer's card, or by giving them a code that changes regularly.
- Only one stamp per day per customer, to prevent abuse.
- Rewards with a single-use code, which the merchant checks when handing them over.
FidèlPro combines these three safeguards: scanning at the till, a daily code that changes every 5 hours, and single-use prizes.
The right message to encourage scanning
A QR code alone isn't enough: people need a reason to scan it. The messages that work best are concrete and immediate:
- “1 free coffee after 10 visits”
- “Your first stamp free when you sign up”
- “No app, in 10 seconds”
Above all, say it out loud: a simple “Do you have your loyalty card?” at the till boosts sign-ups far more than any poster.
Common mistakes
- A QR code that leads to a slow page or asks to download an app: the customer gives up.
- A form that's too long: first name and phone are enough to get started.
- Forgetting consent: marketing messages require the customer's explicit consent (see our guide loyalty cards and GDPR).
- Not testing it yourself: scan your QR code with an iPhone and an Android before displaying it.
Printable kit: poster, table tent and sticker
To get started fast, prepare three materials: an A4 poster near the till, a counter stand and a window sticker. FidèlPro generates them automatically in your colours, with your QR code, ready to print.
