sans application : comment ça marche pour un commerce ? loyalty card
“Yet another app to download?” That's the reply many merchants hear when they offer a loyalty card on a phone. A loyalty card without an app solves this problem: the customer scans a QR code, their card opens, and that's it. Here's how it works, and what to check before choosing a solution.
Why download-required apps hold back sign-ups
Asking a customer to download an app at the till is asking a lot: find the app in the store, install it, create an account, remember a password. Meanwhile, the queue grows longer.
Result: many customers refuse, or promise to do it "later". And an app installed for a single shop often ends up deleted the first time the phone runs out of space.
An app-free card removes these steps. Signing up takes a few seconds, which makes all the difference for a local shop where customers have no time to waste.
How a loyalty card without an app works
- The customer scans a QR code displayed at the till (poster, counter stand, window sticker).
- A page opens in their browser: they enter their first name and phone, and accept the terms.
- Their card is created instantly, in the shop's colors. They can add it to their phone's home screen: it then opens like an app, with a single tap.
- At each visit, the visit is validated at the till (card scan or code shown by the merchant), and the stamp appears instantly.
Technically, it's a web app (also called a PWA). It works on iPhone and Android alike, without going through the App Store or Google Play.
What you gain over the paper card
- No more lost or forgotten cards: the phone is always in the customer's pocket.
- Less cheating: visits are validated at the till and rewards get a single-use code.
- A direct line to your customers: with their consent, you can send them a notification for an offer, a birthday or a quiet slot.
- Reliable figures: number of sign-ups, visit frequency, customers who no longer come.

Limits to be aware of
An app-free card isn't magic. Three points deserve your attention:
- Notifications require the customer's consent. On iPhone, they only work if the card has been added to the home screen. A good solution guides the customer step by step.
- The customer needs a smartphone. The vast majority of customers have one, but plan a simple solution for the others (search by name or phone at the till).
- Quality depends on the provider: opening speed, ease of validation at the till, data protection. Test before you commit.
Questions to ask before choosing a solution
- Can the customer sign up in less than 30 seconds, without downloading anything?
- Does validation at the till take less than 3 seconds?
- Are rewards protected against cheating (unique code, validation by the merchant)?
- Is the data hosted in Europe and is the solution GDPR-compliant?
- Is the price clear, with no commitment, and a free trial?
Our guide to choosing loyalty card software covers each criterion in detail.
Set up an app-free card in one day
- Choose your reward and the number of visits (see how many stamps to plan).
- Customize the card: logo, colors, shop name.
- Print the QR code and place it where customers wait: next to the payment terminal.
- Offer it to every customer for two weeks: one sentence is enough, “Would you like a loyalty card? Scan here, it's free.”
With FidèlPro, these steps are built in from account creation, and the trial is free for 30 days.
